Hi I’m Otis, a Creative and Writing Director. I’m an Aries who loves noodles, long runs in the woods, and the Oxford comma.

Collage of outdoor and travel scenes, including people hiking and exploring, scenic landscapes with mountains, lakes, and forests, an art gallery exhibit, and a man taking a selfie in front of an iconic reflective sculpture.

The best way to make someone feel is with a story.

Hi, I’m Otis, a Creative and Writing Director with more than 20 years of experience defining brands, leading teams, and making words do real work. I’m looking for my next full-time role, where clarity, taste, and strong thinking matter as much as craft.

A copywriter at heart, I’m drawn to good questions, the insight they unlock, and the creative momentum that follows. I’m as comfortable in the work as I am leading others through it—setting direction, shaping ideas, and helping teams get from rough instinct to finished, resonant work.

My background spans brand and campaign copy, voice and tone systems, product and feature naming, editorial content, scripts, social, and everything in between. For the past four years, I led Brand Writing at Dropbox, working within the Brand Studio to deliver award-winning work and elevate both brand and product through disciplined, thoughtful use of language.

Before Dropbox, I partnered with brands like Google, YouTube, Specialized, Adidas, Nest, PayPal, Carter’s, REI, and Yakima to tell stories at every scale, from global launches to small but meaningful moments.

Alongside brand work, I’m a longtime journalist and poet. My writing has appeared in Bicycling Magazine, Bon Appétit, Saveur, Epicurious, and Portland Monthly. My poems have been published in Poetry International, Inkwell, The Clackamas Literary Review, and elsewhere.

I grew up surfing, climbing, and riding BMX bikes in San Diego, then moved to Portland, OR for college and stayed. I spent several years at New York University as a University Fellow, earned an MFA in Creative Writing, ate a lot of ramen, and fell in love with the city. I miss New York all the time, but she understands.

Can drive a forklift. Excellent knife skills. Good with a cocktail shaker.

Master Sommelier dropout—but still pretty strong with a wine list.
